Vocappulary is a mobile-first English vocabulary learning application featuring over 20,000 words organized across 38 main categories and 423 subcategories. Designed to feel intuitive and familiar, the app delivers vocabulary learning through a swipe-based interaction model inspired by modern content consumption habits. In addition to product development, we focused on UX, interaction design, and engagement mechanics to create a learning experience that feels fast, visual, and habit-forming.

Challenge

Traditional vocabulary learning apps often rely on static lists, repetitive exercises, and rigid study flows, making long-term engagement difficult. Users quickly lose motivation and struggle to build consistent learning habits. The challenge was to reimagine vocabulary learning in a way that feels natural, lightweight, and engaging—while still supporting structured categorization, level-based progression, and meaningful retention without overwhelming the user.

Solution

We designed Vocappulary as a swipe-driven learning experience that mirrors familiar mobile interaction patterns. Words are presented in an endless, card-based flow, allowing users to discover vocabulary intuitively while interacting through likes, saves, and collections. Smart notifications, lock screen and home screen widgets, level-based classification, and sharing features reinforce daily engagement—transforming vocabulary learning into a continuous, social-style experience rather than a scheduled task.
